Alexis is a lovely, active and social 11 year old girl living in Clay County. This year Alexis was diagnosed with NF known as Neurofibromatosis. NF can affect many parts of the body including the brain, spinal cord, nerves, skin and other body systems. NF can cause the growth of non-cancerous tumors on nerve tissue, producing skin and bone abnormalities. Alexis has been through surgery as these tumors have had an effect on her balance and eye sight. The medical staff working with Alexis has determined that Alexis resembles Type II and more surgeries and tests are still ahead for her. As you can imagine the best care is a huge financial burden and the education about her diagnosis is very limited to the public. Through it all she has shown us her love of life, family and friends!
